Once again this morning greets with the bitter cold— 2 degrees, better than the 17 below yesterday but still the kind of cold that seems to still the land and makes every breath visible. The ranch feels quieter on mornings like this, as if even the animals pause.
Today is a day marked with both heaviness and gratitude. Today we slaughter one of our bulls.
He has done the work he was meant to do. We give thanks for the many calves he sired, for the strength he passed on, and for the role he played in sustaining our herd. And today, we also give thanks that through him, our family will be fed for many months to come.
This is ranch life — honest, humbling, and deeply rooted in stewardship. We don’t take lightly the responsibility of raising animals, nor the sacrifice involved. We pause, we give thanks, and we acknowledge that God provides in ways both seen and unseen.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
Even in the cold, even in the hard moments, His provision is evident.
Life Keeps Moving
As the day unfolds, the pace doesn’t slow. After-school sports fill our afternoons and evenings — practices, games, muddy cleats, and tired smiles. We find ourselves watching our children grow, seemingly overnight, stretching into new seasons right before our eyes.
Between chores, commitments, and cold hands wrapped around warm mugs, we’re reminded how quickly these days pass. The work is demanding, the schedule full, but our hearts are thankful.
This season of life is busy. It’s loud. It’s beautiful.
Gratitude in Every Season
Today holds contrast — cold air and warm meals to come, loss and provision, quiet moments and full calendars. And through it all, we are reminded to give thanks.
Thanks for the land.
Thanks for the animals.
Thanks for growing children and full days.
Thanks for God’s faithfulness in every season.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1
Cold mornings remind us that warmth is a gift. Hard days remind us that provision is sacred. And watching our children grow reminds us that time is precious.
This is life at Whisper River Ranch — rooted in faith, shaped by the land, and held together by gratitude.
